Red Velvet by Carla Luna

Faking it has never been so much fun…

In her ultra-competitive family, April Beckett is used to taking last place. For years, she’s put up with jabs about her modest job and her pathetic love life. Especially after she tried to impress her older sisters with a fake boyfriend in college and failed miserably. But now she has a smoking-hot date for her brother’s wedding, guaranteed to wow them.

Until he bails. Cue total desperation.

Without April’s friendship, Brody Blackwood wouldn’t have survived his last breakup. So, if she needs a plus-one for a family wedding, he’s all in. Even if it means pretending to be her boyfriend. And committing to six days of activities at a wooded resort in Wisconsin. But how hard could a relaxing getaway with your best friend be?

Too bad there’s a grueling 10K race and a cutthroat trivia night to endure. Not to mention a massive secret to protect. But will the biggest secret of all turn out to be that this fake relationship feels more real than April or Brody ever imagined?

My Thoughts

⭐⭐⭐⭐

April is more determined than ever to prove to her family that she has her life all worked out. After dealing with years of tormenting and having to listen to their judgemental comments about her life choices, she is more than ready to show off a little with a hot date on her arm at her sisters wedding.

So when her date cancels last minute, April is left distraught by the thought of walking into the wedding alone, as well as the inevitable criticisms from her family. That’s when her best friend Brody comes to her rescue. April has saved Brody from embarrassment more than once throughout the years, so its only fair that he returns the favour….and the fact that he is rather easy on the eye is an added bonus.

As Brody willingly agrees to play the role of her doting boyfriend, the pair find themselves on a six day woodland break with the entire wedding party… and of course, with everyone believing that they are in fact a couple, they find themselves in rather close proximity to each other, something that allows them to see one another in a whole new light..

This was such a feel good read that had me hooked from the start. April and Brody are both fascinating characters, both of whom have their own personalities and life stories to share along the way. The friendship between them is wonderful to witness, and as those feelings begin to deepen as they play the role of fake partners, you get to see little changes to these well fleshed out characters as they allow their hearts to open.

The storyline itself is perfectly structured and has you immersed from beginning to end, with humour, romance and a whole lot of drama and fun along the way, this book put a smile back on my face!.
