To Kill A Stranger by Simon Kernick

To save a life, could you take another?

How far would you go for the one you love?
And how well do you really know them?
They took your fiancée.
They framed you for murder.
You have one chance to save her. To clear your name.
You must kill someone for them.
They give you the time. The location.
The target.
You have less than 24 hours.
You must make an impossible choice.

This twisting thriller is a masterclass in page-turning suspense… where nothing
is what it seems and no-one can be trusted.

My Thoughts

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it certainly won’t be the last. The book starts off with a bang, throwing us right in to the middle of the action and ensures you are hooked from here on out.

TV actor Matt Walters finds himself facing a situation that anyone would find impossible to comprehend. When his girlfriend Kate goes missing, he receives a letter informing him that if he wishes to save her life, he must be willing to take someone else’s. Understandably, this has Matt shaken and having to battle with his own morale compass as he tries to ensure the safe return of the woman he loves.

The story is told from various characters perspectives, and as the story moves forward you soon learn that everyone is harbouring their own secrets, and nobody is telling the truth. Full of action and drama from the off, I found myself fully immersed in the ever growing web of lies and deceit that surrounded these characters.

The storyline is fast paced and thrilling to the very last page. As we learn more about Matt, it soon comes to light why he has been targeted in such a way, something that I am sure is a nightmare scenario for anyone. After an abundance of twists and turns that keeps you guessing throughout, I found myself struggling to put this book down!.

As the story nears its conclusion, I found myself on the edge of my seat awaiting to see who was behind it all, and why they went to such drastic lengths to get their message across. This is a truly unique read that I would highly recommend!.
