The House Of Hidden Secrets
The imposing gates of Ramsay Hall yawned open. As Serena and 4-year-old Lana walked up the long driveway, little did they know the dark secrets that lay within.
When Serena Green accepted the role of housekeeper for wealthy widower Hayden Ramsay, she never imagined her new home would be Ramsay Hall, an ancient, sprawling mansion in Northern England.
Serena quickly becomes an integral part of the household, making friends with Hayden’s younger son Hugh, despite Jack, his older brother’s, coldness towards her and Lana.
But the hall’s beautiful exterior hides many ugly secrets. Though Serena and Jack begin to grow closer, she’s confused by his behaviour around Lana. What is he guilty of? And is there more to their mother’s death than the Ramsay men will admit, even to themselves?
As the harrowing past of Ramsay Hall unravels, Serena fresh start becomes a fresh horror. She fears for her and Lana’s safety, but what are the bleak secrets in Serena’s own past?
This house is built on a lifetime of lies… and the truth might just bring the walls crashing down.
A twisty, gripping and utterly unputdownable new thriller that fans of Lisa Jewell, C.L. Taylor and Mark Edwards will love.
My Thoughts
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The description for this book certainly had me intrigued, alongside the cover that really captures your attention immediately. When I started this book I had rather high expectations for it, and I am pleased to say it delivered on every single one of them.
When Selena accepts a job to become the housekeeper for a wealthy man who is on crutches following an accident, she goes in to the job with her eyes open, expecting this to be your run of the mill job. Her new employer lives alone, with his two adult son’s calling round to visit him when they can, and this makes Selena’s decision to bring her five year old daughter Lana along with her all the easier.
Selena and Lana quickly become friends with Hugh – the younger of the two son’s, however the eldest Jack is rather cold towards them both and has a strange way of acting around Lana – something that worries Selena as she has embarked on a relationship with him, despite his rather cold reception to them both.
Selena, Hugh and Jack all have dark, troubling secrets that they carry with them every day, but as they are forced together to support Mr Hayward, these secrets begin to creep to the surface.
This is one of those gripping, page turners that you feel compelled to read until you get all of the answer the story presents to you. I loved the way all of the central characters has their own troubles to overcome, along with the secrets that burdened them from the start. The author has done such a marvellous job of providing the reader with the perfect levels of mystery and suspense that really keeps the story flowing effortlessly from beginning to end.
The story is far from straightforward, and we find ourselves following many twists and turns as the plot thickens and the story nears its conclusion. With a cast of well fleshed out and wonderfully developed characters, and a plot that offers the reader so much more than that of a typical thriller, this is a book I would urge you all to read!.
