First law of magnetism: opposite poles attract.
Single mom Vivian has been burned by love once before, and her job as a divorce lawyer has presented enough evidence to convince her there are no good men left in New York City.
The worst offender is her new neighbor: Dr. Lucas Keller, a couple’s therapist whose piercing blue eyes and flawless dark hair are just as annoying as his bad temper.
But when Luke starts poaching Vivian’s clients by saving their marriages, she makes it her mission to force him out of the building to save her practice. But it’s Luke who gives her the perfect opportunity when he proposes an unexpected bet.
With their offices at stake, Vivian and Luke play the field of love in a fierce battle of wits that quickly turns hot and personal, especially when Vivian’s daughter gets involved. Now, taking down Luke has become more than business for Vivian. It’s become a pleasure—and soon, Vivian and Luke will realize how pointless it is to fight the laws of attraction.
My Thoughts
Well, this book certainly has the perfect title, as the two protagonists in this story really are opposites in every way!. Vivien, the divorce lawyer is known for her somewhat tough exterior and her determination to get the job done, whereas Lucas – the couples counsellor is known for his softer side and the compassionate way in which he deals with people.
As you would expect, when these two people with such opposing personalities come to meet for the first time it is far from a friendly interaction, in fact, you could almost go as far as to say they seem to share a rather immediate dislike to one another. When the couple they are helping with their divorce advise them to go on the dating app in which they first met, neither were initially keen, that is until they make a bet between themselves. This is where the story really picked up its pace, as we follow Vivien and Lucas’s journey through the world of dating.
This story was an absolute delight to read!. The characters were well developed and realistic, and each possessed so many unique qualities and flaws, it really made them seem more human and in turn made it easier to connect with. I adored Vivien’s bond with her daughter, and as a mother myself every single interaction between them seemed honest and real, and after all, it is her daughter that does in fact convince Vivien to not judge Lucas too quickly. Lucas was such a lovable character right from the start. He is so openly caring and loving, it would have been difficult to not be rooting for him a little. The interactions he also shared with Vivien’s daughter were heart warming and truly made me smile.
The story is beautifully written and full of humour and romance from the very beginning!. This is a wonderful book that all of those who enjoy a good romantic comedy must read!.
